Anxious today?

In times like these we all tend to be a little anxious. Going to the store (wearing my mask and gloves) and I can see missing items, people with anxious looks on their faces and I begin to wonder when will it all be over? That is the reaction most of us have.

And he said to his disciples, ‘Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, not about your body, what you will put on.’” (Luke 12:22)

I try to remember this, but there are moments where it just escapes my thoughts. Calls or messages from friends and family fill the screen and my mind can run in different directions, all at the same time! I then think about what else is going on outside. Flowers are starting to bloom, trees are getting green, grass is growing and will need to be mown. Life outside these walls is continuing.

“‘Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,…’” (Luke 12:27a)

And look at the different kinds of flowers and trees growing. None are exactly alike! They are all different colours; yellow, pink, blue, orange. And the trees have many different leaves; straight, curly, and some that won’t even show up for a few months yet. Our Father knows what they need and when. They grow in His time, and flourish because of Him. He cares for us much more than the flowers, the fields, and animals. He makes sure we have what is needed. Not necessarily what we think we need, but what He is providing. He gives us all we require, we just need to be aware of His provisions. (Luke 12:28-29)He tells us to not worry; not to seek, to look for, what we need to eat for drink. He knows what we have need. All the nations of the world are seeking after the same things. People all over are seeking food, water, housing, and now health. This virus is attacking the world, not just one area or another. It is not partial to anyone, rich or poor, no matter what race, what belief. No one is exempt. But God also is not partial, we can be adopted into His family by accepting Jesus as our Saviour, by allowing Him into our hearts. He is not partial to anyone, rich or poor, no matter what race, what belief. He does not show favouritism, partiality, not a respecter of persons; He treats all people alike. All can turn to Him and become part of the family of God.

“Then Peter began to speak: ‘I now realize how true it is that God does not show favouritism…” (Acts 10:34)

I try to keep these thoughts in my mind, but it is not always easy. My hope and prayer for all of us is that we can remember what our Father has written and said to us all, that He loves us, cares for us, and in His time, this will all end. Remember, where your treasure is, there is your heart also. And he said to his disciples,

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on.For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest?Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them.Instead, seek his[c] kingdom, and these things will be added to you.“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.(Luke 12:22-34 ESV)
