I need help. Help to see the way to go, help to see what to do, help to just keep going.
Some days this is what I face, the need for guidance. I don’t always know what to do, no one does. There are days where all seems to fall into place without a single mishap, then there are others! If you are honest you know what I mean.
Everyone has times when nothing seems to be going anywhere, or everywhere at once. The world looks crazy! For a lot of us the last few months have been a little more on the crazy side. I know my life has been a little more demanding and unsettled. It would be nice to be able to go back to a time without all the craziness around us. That won’t happen for a while yet.
We are not the first ones going through trials that last for more than a night. All through history there have been time of stress that have lasted years. Wars, famines, plagues. All were longer than a night. The bible has stories of trials that lasted for years, 40 for the Israelites! (the book of Numbers tells their story)
When I look ahead of me, to the front, I often wonder where I should go, what direction will be the right one. In Isaiah 30, verse 21, the people of Zion were told that they would hear a voice behind them, telling them this is the way.
“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying
‘This is the way, walk in it,’
Whenever you turn to the right hand
Or whenever you turn to the left.”
So if I listen, maybe I can hear the voice behind me helping me also. God is behind me, telling me where to go, I just need to listen for His voice and His words.
Now, there are times when I don’t listen, or just feel tired and run down and just want someone to lead me. That is what shepherds are for, they are there to lead their flock. And sheep follow their own shepherd.
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me,
just as the Father knows me and I know the Father,
and I lay down my life for the sheep.” John 10:14-15
So I have a shepherd that will lead me, I just need to listen for Him, I know His voice. He is here taking care of me, leading me to rest and sleep in His arms. I can give Him my cares, my worries, even my thoughts and prayers, of which He knows before I do.
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
We do not know what we ought to pray for,
but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit,
because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people
in accordance with the will of God.” Romans 8:26-27
So, all around me there is the Holy Spirit, helping me also.
I have someone behind me, someone in front of me, someone all around me, and with all of this, I have Christ, who is in me, helping me.
So I ask today, help keep my mind focused on what I need to see and do, as these trials continue. And I ask also that they will be over soon, but in your time and will. I know you are here, you are helping all of us, and your love is there for us all.
