Abide

I know this is the Christmas season, and most people are writing about His birth, and there are so many days that this is my focus as well, but today I woke up thinking about how He is with us, even now, and was with Mary.

Psalm 91 starts with “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High”. Now these Psalms were written long before Mary was born, so she would have read and known these words. When the angel told her about the baby, did she go to her place, her secret place, where she talked to her Lord? I would think so, and she would have spent time there.

I do love to think of her as being at peace with the knowledge that her life had dramatically changed, that she was so loved by God that she was chosen for this.

We are all chosen for a purpose, all different but all important. It might be to change the lives of many people, or change the life of just one person. We don’t know who or where, but God does. Our job is to listen to Him, and try to do what He asks of us. We don’t always get this right, I know I don’t. I try, but most days I forget.

Then I remember, I dwell, I live, under the shadow of the Almighty. He is watching over me, even on the days when I forget. And He shows me His love for us all, shows me His treasures, I just have to look.

Yesterday was such a day, He showed me that He was watching over me and David as we headed home. He showed me His light shining down in the midst of the clouds and pending darkness. He always knows when I need to see something of His grace towards me and His beauty around us.
