Lessons learned from Milly

First thoughts, 1st lesson

From Milly: Do you cry when I try to hide from you? Do you cry because you want to see me? Do you love me, even though I don’t really know what that means? I know you do, even when I hide.

Me to God: I can’t see You, but I still love You. You don’t hide from me, but at times when I can’t feel You it seems like You are hiding. But those times when it is hard for me to see You, I still love You and You still love me. Even when I try to hide, even when I can’t see You, You still know where I am and you are taking there with me.

2nd lesson

From Milly: You can see what I do, even if the times I come out are at night. I do what I want to do! I wander around, I eat all my food, use my box, and when I hear stirring in the other room (the one I can’t see in), then I head back to my hiding cubby. You come out, I hear you tell me good morning, and you look to see what I ate and then you clean up my box. I know you look for the signs that I wandered, so you know I am still here but still hiding.

Me to God: I wake up and start my day, and go about my business of whatever I am doing that morning. I talk to You, talk to Milly, and pretty much do the same things each afternoon. I am trying to get better at living: watching what I cook and eat, exercising more, doing things that make me better but it is not always easy. So, I hide at times, not wanting You to see me when I am not following what I know is right, not looking to You for help, hiding so that You can’t see me. At least that is what I tell myself. But You see me and all of us. Are you waiting for the day I don’t try to hide, the day I come out and run to You?

3rd lesson

1 Corinthians 13:7 states (from the version GW, God’s Word), “love never stops being patient, never stops believing, never stops hoping, never gives up.”

This is how we treat Milly. We are patient. We know she will come out of hiding. We hope one day she will know we love her. We do not give up on her.

Our Father wants us to treat others this way

This is how He treat us!

He is patient with me, He always believes in me, He knows I will come to Him when I need Him, He does not give up on me.

1 Corinthians 13:7 …always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres. (NIV)
